ADORE HIS SACRED NAME

11x14 oil on canvas nfs
Every morning we open our day with a morning assembly where we pledge, pray, and sing our hymn of the month. One of our teachers teaches all of us how to sign our hymns, so in addition to learning the lyrics we also all learn a little bit of sign language. This is Madyson, a Pre-K student, signing the hymn, Lift High the Cross. Madyson is signing the word, adore... Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim till all the world adore His sacred name! I am determined to learn how to paint hands, so there will be more of these sign language portraits to come.

On April 1, Madyson ran up to me to tell me April is her birthday month, April 13 to be exact. Happy 5th Birthday Madyson!

What a wonderful portrait and theme you've started! There is a large deaf community out there who need to be represented. The city I worked for had a primary to HS boarding school for deaf and HH kids in the Bay Area.

Wow, Angela! Superb work, and beautiful story. So much heart and spirit here, not to mention skilled painting! I used to live across the street from the Maryland School for the Deaf, and learned the alphabet, and just a few signs. Wonderful work!

Sheila - thank you, the theme will continue since I have so many reference shots and am anxious to paint more of these.

Vesna - thank you and thanks for following my work.

Sam - now you know how to sign adore. Ivan is sketched out signing the words "Lift high the cross", I can't wait to paint him and share his story.

Vern - thank you for recognizing the hands. I try to remember just angles and spots of color, but as I paint them, I know they're hands and they freak me out.

Liz - you are a superb portrait artist; thank you so much! I just left a novel on your last post...sorry.

Dana - see comment written next to Vern's name. :-) Thank you so very much; I admire your work very much and it means a lot to me that you like Madison's portrait.

Edward - thank you, her eyes, along with the hands, were most difficult ! Where have you been, I haven't seen anything posted from you in a while...I miss your beautiful paintings

Very nice. My best friend has a degree in American Sign Language, and her eyes are very much like this little girl's.

This takes my breath away! The lighting, the expression, the fabric, and yes, the hands! What a beautiful portrait! But it's the story with portrait that makes the whole thing sing! You have a great gift from God!

Thank you all../your encouragement means so very much to me. I love visiting all of your blogs, Mary said it so well, there are so many very talented artists and so very little time. I appreciate you taking the time to visit me and leave comments. It makes me want to paint and work that much harder.
