BOAT AFLOAT

5x8 oil on canvas panel
Let me first say I found this DSFDF subject to be particularly difficult. I am not much of a water person, I don't mind looking at water, but actually being submerged in water or in a boat is not one of my favorite things. I almost scrapped this one, but remembered Karin's words about not painting this as 2 separate subjects (water and boat/boater), but instead to see this as a whole.

I don't paint many figure paintings and I found this to be very difficult, as well. Many of you paint beautiful paintings of figures and in such small formats...I now have a different level of appreciation for those of you who do small format figure paintings, it is absolutely incredible the way you make each stroke count. So many lessons learned, but I don't think I want to take a ride in a boat any time soon!

I am surprised you found this challenging Angela! It's gorgeous and is one of my favs. I don't think there is anything you can't paint. Just some things go easier because we've done them so many times.

I completely agree with Shelia...this is gorgeous and it certainly doesn't look like you have any trouble whatsoever with either subject. Love the subtle green/gold cast. It gives it a lovely evening glow. So glad you didn't scrap it...Great job!

I really like it too, I think youve put just the right amount of detail and the colours work very well.

I like the warm tones of this Angela, and think you did a really good job with the figure. The struggle was worth it!

I like the yellow tone of your painting, that is quite unusual for a water painting..

You actually looked very comfortable with the water in this one! Love how you brought so much color into the painting instead of just sticking with the blue. Great entry.

Thanks all!

I'm not wild about cool blues, therefore, I lean towards the warm side on most of my paintings. Occasionally, I'll go the cool side, but it has to be a warmed up blue, if that makes any sense.
