END OF THE YEAR SELF-PORTRAIT

6x9 oil on canvas

Because a few other blog artists recently painted their self-portraits, I thought I'd try the same exercise. It's hard not to fix what you want to change (erase, smudge, de-emphasize, lighten or darken, in my case) as you paint yourself, but a worthy exercise nonetheless. If you have not painted yourselves lately, I would strongly encourage you to do so.

Thank you so much for viewing, reading, and taking the time to leave comments on my blog. This is a community of incredible, committed artists and I am happy to "know" each of you.

I wish all of you a very happy, healthy, and safe 2010.
Happy New Year!

Angela, I am happy to know you too.
A wonderful and sensitive self portrait. I think painting myself would be hard to do. Maybe I can convince myself to do it.

Absolutely, beautiful, Angela. A perfect ending to a year of wonderful portraits--human and 4-legged. Thanks for sharing your heart and talent with the rest of us!
Happy New Year!

I look in your eyes,,,
so gentle
I looked in your heart,,,
so giving
I look at the hand,,,
the hand that held the brush,
and touched the canvas,
and expressions flowed
from within.

Your portrait is beautiful.

Angela, great portrait. I like how you've positioned yourself on the "page". Thought it so interesting that when you visited my blog and commented on my DSFDF entry portrait, you mentioned that you steer away from hands. Well, I see no reason for you to have that phobia. The pose you have here is intriguing and the hand looks very comfortable and well-shaped, painted, etc. Great rendition! Happy New Year! (with hands a no-brainer for you anymore)

Angela,

What a beautiful self-portrait. The pose and the cropping are terrific, as is the rendering, itself.

Best of everything in 2010.

Angela, you look beeyooteefull! You did a fabulous job on this self-portrait and for some reason I was surprised to see that you have brown eyes! LOL I always thought they would be blue for some odd reason. This is definitely a stunning portrait worthy to be hung over a fireplace and passed through the generations!
