SOULFUL GUS

8x10 oil on canvas sold
Gus, a black labrador, was a fun little commissioned portrait. There's something about labradors that make my heart melt, with Gus it was his soulful eyes. In the photo references I was given, Gus' expression never changed, he just had that loyal and meaningful "I'll stay by your side and be your best friend" look that I love so much from labs.

Really beautiful! Black dogs are so hard to paint, but you did a fantastic job. His eyes are so soulful. I can't look at a Lab without crying after seeing "Marley & Me". They are the sweetest dogs!

What a great portrait, Angela! You have such a knack for getting expression. I agree with Gwen about black dogs. tricky to paint. I also love Ziggy Marley!

Liz & Gwen-I liked the warmth that happened in his black fur and you are so right black fur is so very hard...but not as difficult as the little hairless Chinese Crested I completed this week.

Edward-Labs are handsome and your little King Charles Spaniels are regal! Thank you.

aRt-You're the color expert; thank you so much!

Sheila-It was fun to paint his golden eyes; thank you.

Howdy Angela. I think you have become my heroine/mentor/ideal for pet portraits. You have really done some marvelous work. Also hope we can get some Texas artists together for a Lone Star Paint-Out/Cook-Out.
