LUCY, FOUR ON THE ROOF

8x16 oil on canvas panel, nfs
Lucy is my brother's dog, a weimaraner mix, she loves to catch tennis balls. When my brother sent this picture to me, I knew it would become a painting.

I don't know what it is about men and their jeeps, my husband owned a CJ7 for a very long time and had great difficulty parting with it. This one sits abandoned in Shane's backyard and has become quite the work of art amongst other works of art built by his hands. Anyone that can take a rusted worn out very old mattress box spring and turn it into a trellis for climbing vines is an artist! He has built a beautiful curved sweeping deck, surrounded by a fountain of stacked cylinders that were once livestock tanks, and a stunning shed made from recycled tin and cypress barn wood. Hanging from the ceiling of the shed is a crystal chandelier, ecletic yes, but that's Shane! Take a close look at the jeep, amongst the lovely green moss that has grown on it, is a fleur-de-lis painted by him, as well. Oh, and he now has another jeep, a brand new red one!

Thanks for looking and visiting; I appreciate it so very much.

This is so awesome Angela! I love how you were able to choose such a unique setting for your brother's dog. In fact I'm green with envy. Excellent composition and execution. You ROCK!

Angela, this IS fantastic. My eyes bounce from Lucy's eyes down the jeep around and back up to Lucy. Title is great, and this is just very nicely done.

Love this composition, Angela! It "feels" like Texas, if you know what I mean. It shows so much of Lucy's free, happy personality and gives us a glimpse of your brother's as well. Like the way you kept the palette warm throughout and the title is perfect.

Great painting! Love your colors and composition. I can just imagine the energy, how she must have taken that one look that is in the photo, and then leaped off the roof to chase another ball.

Angela, doing a great auto is a one thing, doing a great dog is another, executing them both together is something else entirely. Not an easy task, and not many people can pull it off well. Neither dog or auto compete with one another, just the opposite. Nice job, you should be very pleased.

Looks like your not the only artistic one in the family. Like the format you chose, sweet painting.

Thank you all so very much. As for the composition, I knew I was going to do this tall and vertical because I like that format very much, and I did NOT want to paint the entire jeep...cop out, yes!

My husband thanks you for liking his title!

Gwen, I thought it felt Texas, too; however, it's Louisiana...sometimes very similar, especially with "boy stuff", if you know what I mean.

Though others before me have said it all, I really love the expectant posture of the dog...just throw it already!

Cool painting Angela. This could be in one of those hunting mags. The pose looks so natural and you did an awesome job on the Jeep.

saw this on FB, and had to come look again. I did notice the fleur de lis on the bumper! very cool.
This is a terrific painting. (The whole jeep would have taken away from the wonderful dog, so not a cop out--a great compositional choice!)
