THE POSER
8x10 oil on moleskine nfs
The Poser is for sweet Linda Popple's moleskine with The Texas Moleskin Round-Up. I had so much fun painting this guy that I think I may have to commit to painting a few more roosters and chickens over my summer break. The background was a bit of a dilemma, I was aiming for dull, but sophisticated, something that would allow his plumage to stand out. I am happy with the end results, but we'll have to wait and see what Miss Linda thinks for herself.
And now I have a special favor to ask all of you...I have just recently lost 50 pounds...YAY!...Ok, that's embarrassing to admit that I even needed to lose that much, but it is what it is. I want to celebrate those 50 pounds with 50 pet portraits of animals of all kinds during my 50 days of summer vacation. In order for me to do this, I need you to send me photos of your pets, and I mean pets of all kinds...from dogs to piglets, I'm on for the challenge and am hoping for a variety of subjects to work from. The photos must be your own pictures and, you will be under no obligation to purchase a painting. In order for me to work from your photos, they must be clear and in-focus, along with good lighting; jpegs can be e-mailed to me at jaledge@aol.com . I am beginning this challenge within a few days, so it is important I get your photos soon.
Happy Summer to all of you, school is officially over for me and I'm ready to paint...Please help me celebrate my 50 with 50!

Excellent painting, Angela! Definitely do more roosters/chickens!
I used to do them very frequently.
Speaking of pets reminds me to thank you once again for the great painting
of my departed pet, Dolly. Still looking forward to when my moleskin arrives.
Beautiful Rooster! One of my favorite subjects. Congrats on losing the weight.
I will be gladly and happily obliging! Look for them soon. What an undertaking - it will be fun to see! This chicken portrait has wonderful coloring!
And congrats on losing 50 - did you say 50? pounds! That is wonderful - I bet you feel like a million dollars!
I love this rooster Angela...and I am off to find a photo of our new dog. Congrats on the 50 lbs...what's the secret?!
Angela, congratulations on your weight loss! I too could stand to drop a good 50 lbs. Sigh...no mojo to make it happen so I'm especially proud of you! You know, I look at my painting of Gio every single day and I still miss my boy so very much. He was so beautiful, so warm and such a gentle giant. Goodness but I miss him. I know that anyone would be very honored were you to do a portrait of their beloved pet. I know that I sure am.
Beautiful! I love the colors you used. He is a handsome rooster.
I can't wait to see your final paintings for this project.
Angela, 50 pounds??!!!! You must be a mere wisp of a thing now! I bet you are getting wolf whistles out the wazoo.
But what I wanted to say is that I LOVE your rooster, especially every detail of that head - eyes, comb, beak, etc. He is a beauty!!
I'll see if I can get you a photo of our bunny -- love your idea to celebrate your great accomplishment! Proud of you!
Congratulations, Angela! That's awesome. I want to know the secret, too! Wonderful painting- very cool you're in a Texas moleskine swap. :-)
Hi there Angela!... My first visit... the quality is very high and your "feel" for all of your subjects... but particularly the pet portraiture goes beyond the visual surface!
You catch their spirit with your "painterly" ... but deft and and expressive brushwork!
"Simply"... stunning!
I've enjoyed coffee with "You" this morning... and will check in regularly to see what's new in NE TX!!
Good Painting!
Warmest regards,
Bruce
